Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side (BBC 3)
Family Guy returns to BBC 3 with a new feature length film based on the original ‘Star Wars’ movies.
Seth MacFarlane, the creator of ‘Family Guy’, builds on the success of ‘Blue Harvest’, a spoof of ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope’, following it this time with ‘Something Something Something Dark Side’, a spoof of ‘Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back’.
It uses a brilliant mix of the classic ‘Family Guy’ motifs everybody knows and loves such as baby Stewie’s plans for world domination. This side to his character makes it hardly surprising that he has been cast as Darth Vader in this take-off of the ‘Star Wars’ films. But amongst all the comedy it does keep to the plot of ‘Star Wars’ and the narrative is the same as the original film.
After the huge success of ‘Blue Harvest’ I thought perhaps the joke had been exhausted and I was only expecting this to be slightly amusing. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how much this made me laugh. Much of the humour comes from how the Family Guy characters have been cast. With Stewie playing Darth Vader and Chris playing Luke Skywalker it is very funny that the younger of the two ‘Family Guy’ brothers is playing the father in this ‘Star Wars’ spoof.
This show is very funny and will make you laugh out loud; even if you are not a fan of ‘Family Guy’ this extended episode stands alone and can be enjoyed by anyone. Let us hope that they will make a spoof of ‘Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi’ and that it will be just as funny as the first two.
